A devastating chain-reaction crash unfolded on a Wednesday morning in San Bernardino, leaving two people dead and transforming a routine commute into a scene of destruction and flames. Both vehicles immediately burst into flames, and the force of the collision pushed them into the intersection where they struck two additional vehicles.

Firefighters arrived to find a nightmarish scene: four vehicles engulfed in flames with occupants trapped inside. Crews worked to extinguish flames, extricate victims, and treat the injured ABC7 amid intense heat and smoke. Despite their efforts, two people were pronounced dead at the scene—the Volvo driver and Laura Teniz, 57, a mother of four children who was driving to work at a Denny’s restaurant where she was a manager KTLA 5 News.

The human toll extended beyond the fatalities. A third driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, while a fourth driver escaped unharmed. For the Teniz family, the loss has been particularly devastating. Her sister described her as their rock, their biggest supporter, and the heart of the family Yahoo!, leaving behind children who now face the overwhelming responsibility of funeral arrangements.

The crash forced the closure of Highland Avenue in both directions near the collision site, disrupting the morning commute and affecting school drop-offs across San Bernardino’s east side. The timing during rush hour magnified the impact on the community, as emergency responders worked throughout the morning to secure the scene and conduct their investigation.

Authorities continue to investigate what caused the Volvo driver’s erratic behavior and loss of consciousness.
